How to Knit: Slip Knot

Okay, now that you have your knitting supplies together, we are ready to learn how to knit. 
Making a Slip Knot
To begin any knitting project, you will need to make a slip knot. This information is never given in a pattern, it is assumed you know to make a slip knot.  Begin by pulling one end of yarn from your yarn ball and lay it on a flat surface.

Next, make two loops with the yarn (as shown below).

Gently pick up the two loops and insert one loop into the other loop.

Catch the loop on the other side of the loop you just put it through.

Carefully pull on the ends of the yarn to tighten the slip knot.

Now place a knitting needle in your left hand and slide the slip knot onto the needle.

Tighten the ends even more so that they loop is tightened around the needle, yet loose enough that it can still glide gently. Now, stop and take a look at it. You have just made your first slip knot!
